Take a look back at our 2017 Ocean City, MD National Finals!
Our 2016-2017 came to a close last month in Ocean City, MD at our 2017 National Finals! We knew right from the start of the week that this National Finals was going to be packed with talent and passion!
Our third day of our National Finals presented convention classes for our attendees. Marissa Milele, as seen on season 12 of So You Think You Can Dance, taught our Contemporary classes while Anthony Raimondi, who toured nationally and internationally with West Side Story, led our Jazz convention classes. Our Hip Hop classes were taught by Steps on Broadway faculty, Matt Lopez and our Tap classes were led by Cartier Williams, as seen co-starring with Savion Glover in Bring in ‘da Noise, Bring in ‘da Funk.
In addition to the convention classes, we also held our dance parties on day three of our National Finals. We hosted our Junior Beach Bash for our 12 & under competitors and invited our 13 & over competitors to attend our GrooveFest Gala!
Day four was marked by continued competition and we were also honored to announce our 2017 Ocean City National Finals overall studio awards:

The final day of our National Finals began with our Dancer of the Year competition. Each dancer had to compete a solo during our Dancer of the Year competition, submit an essay inspired by a Groove-provided prompt and participate in all convention classes in their age division. We’re thrilled to present the winners of our 2017 Ocean City Dancer of the Year competition:

Each Dancer of the Year winner received a full Groove convention scholarship, a plaque, a custom Groove Dancer of the Year sweatshirt, a $150 cash prize and an invitation to be one of our 2018 dancewear models!
We also held our Parent Dance Battle on the final day of our National Finals. Through Parent Dance Battle entry fees, over $1,500 was donated to St. Jude Children’s Hospital on behalf of the Parent Dance Battle winner, “Guys & Dolls” from Miss Jeanne’s School of Dance Arts!
The JAM concluded our week of dance in Ocean City, MD which began with our Opening Number performance, choreographed by Jill Lazzini, featuring over 75 dancers from numerous dance studios! We welcomed 35 performances to The JAM stage, but the ultimate winner of The JAM and our $1,000 cash prize in Ocean City, MD was “Inside Out” from Barbara Hatch School of Dance!
